Many of our Members are following advice from public health and staying close to home....but still want to be active. We get it at Makerspace and hope to move more activity online for next few months while maintaining a drop-in for those wearing masks. PLEASE tell us your needs and projects you want to work on and learn more about. On November 15, 2020 we were up to 80 paid memberships and don't want to lose this interest. Email us at oceansidemakerspace@gmail.com .
During January Makerspace is hosting "Come one Come All" ZOOM sessions on Monday mornings at 10:00am. If you want to be invited just email interest to oceansidemakerspace@gmail.com and we will send you a ZOOM invite. This morning's first session on 01/04/21 included some great ideas from Frank G about linking to other Makerspace sites here on this page...so watch for that.
(1) Both Arduino micro-controller and Micro:Bit from England will be getting promoted at online sessions for both youth and others.
(2) We will also be having an online session for introduction to 3D printing. We have hosted couple of these already and they are being well received. Again email us your interest.
(3) If your interest is wood working, model trains, sewing or making jewelry there might be something we could deliver online there as well....You will have to let us know your interest.
We are still open and alive....Beginning Wednesday night, Jan 13 we will again be hosting OPEN HOUSE at 6pm so bring your MASK and come on by....otherwise we are limited to set hours for rest of January (except for special arrangements you might make with 'Metal Arts Studio'. If you need access to our equipment or advice contact us separately at oceansidemakerspace@gmail.com or phone JIM at 250-594-2893..
The little unit with wires attached is a QMOD Energy Block developed in Holland by a young Canadian engineer now living in Courtenay. Makerspace is offering new year online sessions with the inventor who will focus on basic electricity concepts and creating energy in sustainable ways.
Here's a more detailed look at what's lined up still for JANUARY 2021. If you don't see what you like then let us know at oceansidemakerspace@gmail.com
NOTE: We are having downtime during daytime hours in January...and being responsible about COVID 19 and social distancing!!!!! However we can open for individuals. Phone 250-594-2893.
During the Covid 19 pandemic we've learned to offer programs online via the 'Zoom' and 'SLACK' platforms. The "Micro:Bit" mini-computer that was provided to every 11 year old in Britain by the BBC Corporation is now available at Makerspace for 9-12 year olds. Using this item they can learn basic coding on it and then progress to the "Arduino" which allows one to program robotic cars and many other accessories.
